The Funahashi Times No.13 フルーツのお話

Hello there!

Last week, I received a lot of plum fruits. I thought they were small peaches at first. But no, they weren’t small peaches. They were plums. It was my first time to eat fresh plums. In Philippines, I used to eat canned plums only. I like canned plums too, but I like fresh plums better. Plums taste like peaches for me, but it’s a little bit sour. It’s delicious for me. We don’t have plums, peaches, and persimmons in Philippines, but we have mangoes, bananas, and coconuts. I wish my friends and family in Philippines can taste fresh plums too. I think they will like it.

モモじゃなくてプラム!日本では、プラム、モモ、柿。

フィリピンでは、マンゴー、バナナ、ココナッツ!!

Hi there!

Do you remember my vegetable plants last May? Look! Here they are. The soybean plants and corn plants are still too young, but the tomato plants are already big. Many of the tomatoes are still green, but some are ready to eat. I picked three orange tomatoes last Friday. I made them into a salad. It was delicious. The tomatoes were very juicy. I think many tomatoes will turn red by next week. I’m excited! I hope the soybean plants and corn plants grow fast and healthy too.

Hello there,

Last Sunday, I went to Joganjigawa Park to see the eclipse. Eclipse is called Nisshoku in Japanese. It happens when the moon looks like it’s blocking the sun. Looking at the sun is dangerous. It can destroy your eyes. To see the eclipse, I used special glasses. Look, I have a picture of it. I wanted to take a picture of the sun too, but I didn’t have a good camera. The eclipse lasted for about 1 hour, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. There were many people at the park. Many kids were playing baseball and soccer. Others came to see the eclipse too. It was a beautiful Sunday.

Hello there!

There are many beautiful places in Philippines. One of them is Mt. Mayon. Many people like it because of its shape. It’s like a perfect triangle. It looks like Mt. Fuji. It’s famous around the world. Many people from different countries visit it every year. It’s beautiful, but it’s also dangerous. It’s a volcano. In 1814, it destroyed a village. Many people lost homes, friends, and families. But don’t worry. Today, it’s already safe to visit. Thanks to science, we know when it’s safe or dangerous. When you visit Philippines, please come and see Mt. Mayon.

Hello there!

“Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love you, tomorrow.” Have you heard this song? It’s from the movie Annie. I have watched it many times before. I watched it again last Sunday. It’s a movie about a girl, Annie. She never met her family. Her life is difficult, but she can smile. She sings to be happy. She sings to make other people happy too. Annie loves her friends. She always helps them. We can learn many things from Annie. We can learn many things about music, friendship, family, love, and hope.
